Subdivision and Alteration of an Existing Commercial Property – Retrospective

The client contacted Planning By Design regarding retrospective planning permission for the subdivision and alteration of an existing commercial property, creating two retail units at ground-floor level and a third at first-floor level.

The scheme retains all three units within Use Class E, providing smaller, more flexible commercial spaces within an established local centre. The works include new shopfronts, new rear window openings at first-floor level and a new rear entrance.

Our team prepared architectural drawings and a Design and Access Statement to support the application. The planning case focused on retaining the building’s commercial use, supporting local businesses and demonstrating that the alterations were appropriate to the surrounding area.

Retrospective planning permission has now been granted. It means the client is no longer at risk of enforcement action.
