Conversion of an Outbuilding to be Used as a Beauty Salon – Retrospective

The client contacted Planning By Design regarding retrospective planning permission for the conversion of an existing outbuilding within the property’s rear garden, to be used as a beauty salon under use class Sui Generis. The remainder of the site (house and garden) will remain as a dwelling under use class C3, as per the status quo. The client wishes to operate the business from her home, and not in another location this ‘work from home’ approach for her business is cheaper than renting a building/ renting a chair somewhere in a town central location.

Following a planning appraisal with one of our chartered town planners it was determined that the project is feasible. One of our chartered architects prepared the required architect drawings, which the client approved. Following approval of the design, one of our chartered town planners prepared a design and access statement, to justify why the planning authority should grant retrospective planning permission.

With the clients approval a retrospective planning application was submitted with the architect drawings and design and access statement.

Retrospective planning permission has now been approved for the conversion of an existing outbuilding within the property’s rear garden, to be used as a beauty salon under use class Sui Generis. This means the client will not need to restore the existing outbuilding its original state or use and is no longer at risk of enforcement action.
